Purple Rugs

Purple rugs are somewhat out of the ordinary when choosing a color for your home decor. The purple colors can vary from pale purple to a rich dark plum. Purple shag in an area rug may be just the color to set off your living space or bedroom. The fibers for your new rug might be wool or a man made fiber.

The exact color of purple will depend upon the use and location that will be made of the your rug. You might want a runner for a hall or foyer. If this is the purpose of the rug, it should be a strong color to add emphasis for the guests who enter your home. The rug can be solid color or have a muted pattern. Even more excitement is available with a bold print or abstract pattern in the rug.

A rug in tones of purple can be appropriate for a wall hanging. A handcrafted wool rug in a pattern similar to an Oriental motif can be very striking on a pale wall. Colors might range from imperial purple to pale lavender. Typically, the paler purple tones such as lavender, heliotrope or orchid would be used in a bedroom.

An area rug in either dark or light purple values can add a striking accent to any room. A monochromatic color scheme is soothing. Using a dark plum rug on the floor allows for lighter furniture and wall colors. The use of area rugs in a striking color is a way to show off the flooring, whether it is hardwood or tile. Area rugs also help to define living areas in large rooms.

Purple rugs are not for everyone. You may want to test your comfort level by checking some of the choices available in purple before redecorating. If you love the color, it will provide a striking and unique scheme for your living room or bedroom.
